Ain't No Half-Stepping:
The Migration of San Francisco Bay Area Blacks to Western Canada, 1858-2010

Photographs and text that detail the little-known migration of free blacks from the Bay Area to the west coast of Canada in 1858. Direct descendants of those San Francisco Bay Area blacks still reside on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, where a black community continues to thrive. Feb. 19 through May 19. Main, 3rd Floor, African American Center.

The exhibit is based on Every Goodbye Ain't Gone: A photo narrative of black heritage on Salt Spring Island by Evelyn C. White with photos by Joanne Bealy.

Every Goodbye Ain't Gone is also now available at the San Francisco Library and is for sale at Book Bay, the bookstore of Friends of the San Francisco Public Library.

For more information on the exhibit and how you can find it, see San Francisco Public Library.
